About the collection
Inspired by the great bazaars of the Indian subcontinent, this collection celebrates the meeting of cultures, crafts and ideas. Layering embroidery, woven textures and decorative traditions from across the country, each piece captures the richness of discovery and brings an eclectic design language to your space.
Long before design was documented in books or museums, it travelled through bazaars. Across India, these bustling marketplaces became places where merchants, artisans and travellers exchanged far more than goods. Techniques moved between regions, motifs evolved through conversation, colours found new pairings and traditional crafts absorbed influences carried from distant towns and trading routes.
Embroidery from one corner of the country might sit beside woven textiles from another, while block prints, trims, tassels and hand-finished details came together to create something entirely new. The bazaar was not simply a marketplace—it was a living archive of India's evolving decorative arts.
The Bazaar Monograph Collection draws inspiration from this spirit of creative exchange. Rather than representing a single region or craft tradition, it embraces the richness that emerges when different textile languages meet. Intricate embroideries, layered weaves, playful detailing and varied textures come together in compositions that feel collected rather than coordinated, celebrating the beauty of contrast and individuality.
Crafted from carefully selected natural fibres and richly textured fabrics, every cushion is designed to reveal a different facet of India's remarkable textile heritage. Some pieces celebrate bold embroidery, others rely on intricate woven structures or subtle decorative details, allowing material, technique and craftsmanship to take centre stage. The collection encourages layering, inviting different patterns, colours and textures to coexist with confidence.
At House of Mahé, every collection is an exploration of the people, places and traditions that have shaped India's design heritage. Drawing upon more than two decades of textile expertise, each cushion is thoughtfully crafted with exceptional materials and meticulous attention to detail. The Bazaar Monograph Collection reflects this philosophy by celebrating not one story, but many—bringing together diverse crafts, enduring techniques and a spirit of discovery that has defined India's bazaars for centuries.
