About the collection
Inspired by Bengaluru's historic Lalbagh Botanical Garden, this collection brings together architectural symmetry and flourishing botanicals through intricately woven cotton silk. Sculptural textures and an elegant play of light and shadow reveal themselves with every glance, echoing the ordered beauty of one of India's most celebrated gardens.
The Lal Bagh Collection takes its name from Bengaluru's celebrated Lalbagh Botanical Garden, whose history began in the eighteenth century under Hyder Ali and was further developed by his son, Tipu Sultan. Conceived in the tradition of formal Mughal gardens, Lalbagh grew into an extraordinary botanical landscape enriched with plants and trees brought from across India and further afield. Over the centuries, its ordered avenues, rare specimens, flowering expanses and shaded corners have become inseparable from the cultural and natural history of the city.
Drawing upon this meeting of considered design and botanical abundance, the Lal Bagh Collection interprets florals and foliage through a distinctly contemporary lens. The motifs recall the garden's layered planting, where cultivated symmetry exists alongside the generosity and unpredictability of nature. Rather than recreating historical ornamentation, the collection distils its spirit into elegant forms that feel equally at home in modern residences and heritage settings.
Woven from an indulgently soft blend of cotton and silk, the Lal Bagh Collection is designed to delight both the eye and the hand. Intricately woven botanical motifs emerge gently from the surface, creating an almost three-dimensional interplay of light and shadow that shifts throughout the day. This subtle relief lends the fabric remarkable depth while preserving its understated elegance.
Cotton silk brings together the breathability and relaxed character of natural cotton with the delicate lustre, smoothness and fluidity of silk. The resulting textile is exceptionally soft, beautifully draped and particularly suited to interiors designed for comfort. Its refined surface enhances the intricacy of the weave, allowing each botanical detail to reveal itself gradually rather than demand immediate attention.
Every House of Mahé cushion reflects meticulous construction, premium materials and more than two decades of textile expertise. From the clarity of the woven pattern to the precision of its finish, each detail is carefully considered. The result is a collection of luxury cotton silk cushions that brings together botanical inspiration, tactile comfort and enduring craftsmanship.
