About the collection
Few textiles transform colour quite like velvet. Its luxuriously soft pile catches and reflects light with remarkable depth, allowing every hue to shift, glow and evolve throughout the day. Celebrating one of the world's most expressive fabrics, this curation brings richness, texture and unmistakable presence to your space.
For centuries, velvet has been prized for its extraordinary ability to elevate both colour and craftsmanship. Distinguished by its dense, cut pile, the fabric possesses a remarkable quality unlike any other textile. As light moves across its surface, colours appear to deepen, soften and transform, creating an ever-changing interplay of shadow and luminosity. It is this living quality that has made velvet a favourite of designers, decorators and artisans for generations.
The Velvet Room Collection celebrates the fabric in its purest expression. Rather than relying on elaborate embellishment, the collection allows the material itself to take centre stage. From richly saturated jewel tones and earthy botanicals to delicate neutrals and dramatic monochromes, every shade is amplified by velvet's uniquely light-responsive surface. The result is colour with exceptional depth, movement and character—revealing new nuances from morning light to evening glow.
Beyond its visual appeal, velvet offers a tactile experience unlike any other. Its plush surface introduces softness and dimension, while its distinctive texture creates contrast against woven linens, natural woods, stone and metal. Whether used as a bold statement or layered within a quieter palette, velvet lends balance through its richness of surface rather than ornament.
Every House of Mahé collection begins with an appreciation for exceptional materials and thoughtful craftsmanship. Backed by more than two decades of textile expertise, each velvet cushion is carefully constructed to honour the fabric's unique qualities—from the precision of its tailoring to the richness of its finish. The Velvet Room Collection celebrates colour at its most expressive, creating pieces that bring depth, materiality and lasting character to beautifully considered homes.
